What is something that is good for your skin, great for weight loss, has amazing overall health benefits and is absolutely free?
The importance of drinking water for your health and well being is a top notch priority in my book! If you’re looking to start your health journey I personally think we need to start with water!
Aids In Weight Loss
Drinking water ideally 30 mins before a meal will help you not to consume so much food in one sitting, sometimes we mistake hunger for dehydration. Drinking 30 mins before a meal will help you gauge this.
Water can help aid with energy and release the feeling of fatigue! Instead of reaching for that morning coffee as soon as you wake up try a big glass of water maybe pop some lemon or cucumber for flavor. Be mindful that you have just slept hopefully at least 7 hours the night before,so do you really need a “pick me up” with coffee OR are you perhaps feeling dehydrated from not drinking for 7 hours while your body was at work to repair itself.
Water helps to flush out the toxins in our body that we have due to the food we eat, cosmetics, environment and other things. One way to help promote clear skin and beat the signs of premature aging is making sure we drink enough water! When toxins linger in our body they can make us very sick and for some people this can come out as acne, other skin irritations and inflammation.
Flushes Out Toxins
Water helps to gets rid of waste through sweat and urination which reduces the risk of kidney stones and UTI’s (urinary tract infections), and promotes the body to perform better overall.
Are you a night time picker? Or have a sweet tooth right after you eat something savory or healthy, just to finish it off? If you keep your water bottle with you, you’re more likely to sip away on that than to reach for something sweet. If we do this out of habit, let us drink water instead of treats and soon enough you wont even realizing you’re doing so!
Above are my top 5 reasons why you should drink more water, there are many others too!
Overall if we are drinking enough water the body can function better overall, and therefore we feel a lot better, happier and healthier. Our bodies have the potential to work at 100% if we are hydrated. We are much healthier when we are more mindful about the importance of water on our life.
So how much should we really drink?
There are many opinions on how much to drink. I have heard 8 “glasses”, 4 litres, etc. Which one is right? I personally drink about 2-3 L a day. Anything less than that and I start to feel the horrid effects of dehydration. In saying that I do go to the gym and walk most days so on those days I usually drink more than if I was not doing anything active.
I don’t think there is a right amount for every person and their lifestyle, but I do think we have to be mindful of making sure we do drink water. Do you ever just forget to drink? I know I do if I don't actively think about having my water bottle with me! Let us be mindful of that and you are already half way there!
